A magistrate's court on Tuesday awarded 14-day police custody to two accused in connection with the murder of alleged Indian Mujahideen operative Mohammad Qateel Siddiqui in high-security Yerwada jail in Pune.
Brother of suspected Indian Mujahideen terrorist Mohammad Qateel Siddiqui, who was murdered at the Yerawada jail in Pune recently, has sought the intervention of President Pratibha Patil, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Chief Justice of India S H Kapadia for a high-level probe into the incident.
The 40-year-old gangster died while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in the Kothrud area, he said.
The family of suspected Indian Mujahideen operative Mohammad Qateel Siddiqui, who was murdered in a Pune jail on Friday, will move the Supreme Court for a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation into his killing. Advocate M S Khan, who was representing Siddiqui before a Delhi court, on Saturday said he will approach the apex court for a CBI inquiry into the incident.
The lax security in jails is under scanner with recent episodes of breaks and murders of inmates, reports Vicky Nanjappa.
